Fall again??! It's hard to believe that in only a few weeks we'll probably be seeing snow. This is the time of year that people start slowing down and getting geared for the holidays. It's also a very busy time of the year for us here in the office because a lot of our patients come in at the end of the year to make use of their annual benefits before they lose them. Since it does book up fast we urge you not to delay in making your appointment!
If you prefer to order them from us in the office please be advised that we cannot guarantee they will be in as quickly as you need them, sometimes they're backordered, so make sure to give us some advance warning. Sometimes people don't realize the stress they place on us here when they call and want their contacts yesterday, it isn't fair to us and we want to let you know that while we will continue to do the very best we can for our patients we are not willing to continue being stressed because someone may be out of them before they place their order. The same applies to glasses, etc...if you know you are leaving town on a certain date please make sure you leave plenty of time for us to place the order and get your glasses in before you leave. Most people are very good about this but for those who aren't....
We've been extremely busy here in the office and are so thankful to have a new addition to our staff, Natalia. 2010 has been good to us so far and we are looking forward to having a great year. The business has grown quite a lot, we added several new patients last year and are on track for repeating that this year.
One thing that, although not new, is even more important this year is the need for you, the patient, to check and make sure that you are eligible for an eye exam through your insurance. This year there are a lot of changes in the insurance industry and there are some new versions of existing insurances. The roll-over of plans begins in July. For the patient that means you will need to be aware of what your benefits are because here in the office we have to learn what ALL of them are and that takes an extraordinary amount of time.
We've been busy adding new frames the past couple of months and there are a lot of really neat ones in :) Frame makers are getting more creative with the temples adding colors, designs and even using some different materials. We have a few frames with bamboo temples! Retro is the "in" look this year and we have a few of them in stock. We have sunglasses so big they practically cover your entire face :O We're constantly changing them to keep up with the latest styles and think you'll agree we have a fantastic selection--even our reps always comment on them!
Our contact lens patients have loved being able to order their contacts online and that has helped relieve some of the pressure on us here in the office to make sure everyone gets their lenses in a timely manner so we encourage you to continue placing your contact lens orders online with us. One suggestion we have is that you take advantage of the rebates that are available. Many of our patients already order a year's supply but there are a few of you who still order 1 box at a time and you are losing out on savings when you do it that way. We are competitive and are constantly checking to make sure that we have every rebate available that the major companies have so please take advantage of them. If you are a contact lens patient of ours and have not received your password please feel free to e-mail the webmaster of this site and we will make sure you receive one. This service is only available for our patients as we do not feel it would be appropriate to take business away from other optometrists.
We have some awesome sunglasses this year, Liz Claiborne, Kate Spade, Nine West, Ralph Lauren, Polo, . Regardless of where you get them we do urge everyone to wear good quality sunglasses, and this is NOT a "summer only" suggestion, it applies year round. The sun is much stronger now than at any time in prior history and can cause serious damage to your eyes you may not be able to tell a difference right away but believe me it will show up when you are older so best to take every precaution now. When choosing sunglasses it is best to choose one that will offer you the most complete coverage of your eyes and have UV / UVA protection. Polarized lenses help to enhance your vision in the suns glare and are a good addition to any sunglass. If you wear prescription sunglasses we realize these add additional expense to the final product but it is an expense worth incurring in the long run and UV protection is automatically included in a polarized lens. One other option for people who need prescription sun lenses would be to get a frame that comes with a polarized sun clip we have a large variety of these in stock and this choice gives you more bang for the buck. People who wear contact lenses can wear non-prescription sunglasses of high quality.

Just a Comment About Our Frames...
Many optical shops offer frames for sale that come as part of a kit from insurance providers and there has been a real push by those same companies for us to do so as well but we don't want to be just one of the crowd. Our frames are hand-picked by us from our sales people whom we've built relationships with over the years and we do not feel it would be the right thing to do to cut them out of their jobs. Because we do hand select all of the frames in our frame room we also control the quality and stand behind them in our warranties. You will not find cheaply made products in our office but we do make every attempt to keep our frames at reasonable prices and because they are updated continually throughout the year you can always be assured to have the latest selections available.
