Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the face, mouth, dentition, jaws and neck, the placement of dental implants, preparation of areas for implants, removal of wisdom teeth, other teeth, pathologic and cosmetic problems. Dr. Sherwood works closely with other referring doctors in a wide range of specialties to provide comprehensive care to patients.
Dr. Sherwood received his bachelors degree at the University of Maine. His Doctor of Dental Surgery degree was completed at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. Following this he did a general practice residency and oral oncology fellowship at the Brigham and Womens Hospital and Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Sherwoods residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery was completed at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and Hospital. He also completed an orthodontic residency at Nova Southeastern University Dental School where he was a professor and residency director. Dr. Sherwood is one of the few dentists in the world trained in both oral surgery and orthodontics.
Dr. Sherwood is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His unique background and research publications have made him a popular speaker at national meetings. He is currently an Associate Professor at Boston University where he teaches part-time. As an instructor, Dr. Sherwood recognizes that educating patients about the procedures performed is a critical element in providing the highest quality patient care.
