GeoExchange (geothermal) system components are installed indoors and underground, so they are not exposed to theft, vandalism or environmental conditions that can shorten system life. With only periodic filter changes, geothermal heat pumps can provide many years of quiet, worry-free operation while saving money on utility bills. GeoExchange heat pumps have been the subject of decades of research, consultation, field trials, and utility demonstration projects. They are operating world-wide. By using the constant and favorable temperature of the earth as its heat source, 75% of the heat delivered to the building by a geothermal heatpump is renewable energy, therefore efficiency is greatly improved. Mechanical simplicity and the constant earth temperature assure longer equipment life and less maintenance.
Advanced Air-Source heat pumps incorporate a new generation of technology that provides efficient operation at temperatures down to -30 F. While the energy efficiency is not quite as great as a geothermal system they have the advantage that they can be installed on smaller sites and where drilling, trenching and disturbing the current geography of a site is not possible.
