S3 Design specializes in architecture and interior design for sports and recreation facilities for multiple client types. The principals have a combined experience of over 20 years in the design of sports and recreation facilities for colleges and universities, as well as private health clubs. The firm was created by Bryan Dunkelberger and Salvatore Canciello in response to an increased understanding of the potential impacts that smart design can have on the overall user experience.

Through multiple experiences at two firms renowned for sports design, Ellerbe Becket and Sasaki Associates, the principals of S3 bring the technical knowledge of specific issues related to the design of sports and recreation projects.

The S3 Design team explores the connections between architectural form, interior space and the larger context that it is a part. Whether designing for a university or a private club, we have found that revealing the spirit of place is a key ingredient in quality projects. There are many technical aspects to the design and planning of sports and recreation projects, but it is not enough to solve these issues alone. Our experience has stressed the importance of solving those issues in a way that responds to the individual needs of every client. There is no universal solution. Taking a project beyond expectations depends on a keen understanding of our clients goals and aspirations. In the end, how the facility operates and how the participants interact with it determines the success of the project.
