Merrimack Valley Hospital will host a wellness seminar with Life Coach Sharon Wright on Monday, Nov. 22 at Noon in the1st floor Auditorium.
Learn how old habits and beliefs block us from moving forward, and how Sharon's techniques, sometimes using horses, help dissolve those blocks to invite ease and pleasure back into life.

Flu Vaccine Clinic
Merrimack Valley Hospital will hold an adult community flu vaccine clinic on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 9 a.m. until Noon in the 1st floor Atrium.
The cost for the vaccine is $30. Medicare patients should bring their card for payment. Those without Medicare will be given a receipt for payment should they seek reimbursement from their health insurance company.

Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce the arrival of Maysabel Aponte, MD, a new primary care physician who is fluent in Spanish and English.
Dr. Aponte, a graduate of University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, recently moved to Massachusetts from Bayamon, Puerto Rico. Her specialty is internal medicine.
"Dr. Aponte will be a welcome addition to our medical staff, and she will help fulfill the need within the community for Spanish-speaking primary care physicians,” said Merrimack Valley Hospital CEO Michael Collins.
Dr. Aponte completed her Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at University District Hospital in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. She is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians and American Cancer Society.
“I am excited to begin working with Merrimack Valley Hospital and the communities it serves. I look forward to being part of improving patient care and education because good health is key,” said Dr. Aponte.
Dr. Aponte, who has a special interest in nephrology and kidney transplants, participated in the procurement process of the first pancreas/kidney transplant in Puerto Rico. An avid swimmer, Dr. Aponte is a lifeguard, swimming instructor and scuba diver. She likes to read, travel, spend time with family, help her church, and assist with fundraising activities for charitable events.

Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce the arrival of Edwin Menor, MD, general surgeon.
Dr. Menor, originally from South America, is bilingual in Spanish and English. He was medically and surgically trained in the United States.
Dr. Menor performs all general surgery procedures, and has a special interest in minimally invasive procedures. Minimally invasive procedures are done with smaller incisions, which generally means less pain and faster recovery times for patients.
"Dr. Edwin S. Menor will be a welcome addition to our medical staff, and he will be located in the medical office building on the hospital campus," said Merrimack Valley Hospital CEO Michael Collins.
Dr. Menor’s focus is on patient education. He spends time informing patients about their conditions, explains surgical choices, and enlists their participation in pre- and post-surgical options for rapid recovery.
"I love my patients and treat them with respect and dignity. As a surgeon, my job is to prolong and improve their quality of life. Surgical care should be available worldwide to everyone in need,” said Dr. Menor.
A compassionate surgeon, Dr. Menor goes on mission trips to do pro bono surgeries for indigent patients both in the United States and third-world countries. His most recent surgical mission trip was to his home country of Peru.
Dr. Menor earned his medical degree from Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his internship and surgical residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York in 2003, and then trained with one of the pioneers of advanced laparoscopic surgery, James “Butch” Rosser, Jr., M.D. from Yale University, at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York.
Dr. Menor is a member of the Society of American Endoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgeons, the National Hispanic Mentor Recruitment Network, and the Peruvian-American Medical Society.

Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center Opens at Merrimack Valley Hospital
Merrimack Valley Hospital is pleased to announce that through a partnership with Diversified Clinical Services, The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center at Merrimack Valley Hospital has opened on the 3rd floor of the hospital.
Medical Director Walter Kwass, MD, Board Certified Vascular Surgeon, and the specialty trained staff at the center are dedicated to providing comprehensive treatment using the most technologically advanced wound care therapy. In addition, they provide valuable education to patients and caregivers to assist with problem wound management. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is used as an adjunctive treatment for problematic, non-healing wounds that meet specific criteria, and it is expected that 20% of the wound care cases will meet those criteria.
The Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center is designed to complement the services offered by the physician – it is an extension of the physician’s practice. Patients will receive outstanding, professional and courteous attention in the timeliest fashion, and will then be returned to their referring physician.

The events offer people from the communities we serve, the information they need about various medical conditions and treatments.
Each seminar also offers one free contact hour for nurses, which helps them learn about the newest advances in diagnosis and treatment.
More Free Monthly CEU ProgramsMerrimack Valley Hospital's Adult Behavioral Medicine Unit presents a free monthly lecture series for nurses and social workers on the third Thursday of every month - 7:30 a.m. registration and breakfast, followed by the program from 8 to 9 a.m.
