“On Land & on the Sea” Oil Paintings by Captain Phil Cusumano
This exhibit includes an expansive collection of oil paintings from a sea captain who has truly lived his images. Cusumano’s work features marine art that depicts the fishing industry, local Cape Ann fisherman, their Gloucester fishing vessels and activities, with which he has had a long relationship. His collection has long included powerful depictions of the Atlantic Sea.
Recently, Cusumano has turned his eye for realism toward the land. Inclusion in this exhibit is paintings of landscape, ranging from horses racing across the Arizona desert to pastoral river scenes and still life.
“Thinking Inside and Outside the Box” Mixed Media by Sandra Golbert
An eclectic and whimsical exhibit of artwork that has been fashioned with hand-made paper, hand-dyed silk, wood, basketry, collage, beading, doll-making and other exotic techniques. Golbert was surprised to discover how much fun it has been to combine all this disparate art into a cohesive exhibit of her work.
In conjunction with this exhibit is Golbert’s workshop “Inside the Box.” In this special workshop Golbert will guide you through the process of using your memorabilia, pictures and other items of interest to make a wonderful ‘memento’ for your home or as a gift. You can also invent a shadowbox on any subject you would like to commemorate. Wonderfully exotic papers, collage pages, ribbons and other fun items will be provided for you to add to our creation.
Over the years, Cutietta has resisted changing from film to digital photography. Than with experimenting with a new camera he began to appreciate different aspects to digital photography. He realized that each photo had inner beauty that transformed some of their parts into a world of creativity which allowed him to further use his imagination and created multiple unique images. Cutietta describes his new found passion is as follows: “Like music I enjoy creating art not restricted to a formal design, like cooking I enjoy mixing the ingredients to satisfy my palate, like language I enjoy telling my story.”
